Tottenham Hotspur leading race for Kalvin Phillips

Tottenham Hotspur are frontrunners for the signatures of the 27-year-old Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having Kalvin Phillips in their ranks. The London club want to reinforce their midfield in the upcoming winter transfer window and have their eyes set on the 27-year-old Manchester City midfielder.

Phillips joined City in the summer of 2022 after proving himself in the English top flight while playing for Leeds United. He was expected to slowly make his way into the first team but things haven’t gone according to plan.

The England international has had little game time under Pep Guardiola and he had the opportunity to leave the club in the summer. But, the player wanted to fight for his place in the team. However, nothing has changed and the Spanish manager has recently made it clear that Phillips is not a part of his plans.

As a result, his departure from City is certain. And, there are multiple clubs interested in his services. Tottenham are one of the clubs that want to acquire his services. Spurs could soon be short in midfield, they have already lost Rodrigo Bentancur to another injury and soon Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ange Postecoglou wants to ensure he has enough depth in his ranks to cope with the absence of all three of the midfielders. The Australian boss is keen on reinforcement and he wants to sign the City midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

Spurs are looking to sign the 27-year-old on a short loan deal and according to the report, they are front-runners for his signature. Even Juventus are interested in him but the player will prefer staying in England. While they are leading the race for his signatures, it will be interesting to see if Guardiola’s team are ready to loan him out to a rival.

Spurs are just three points behind City at this stage in the league and helping the London club reinforce their midfield could backfire. As a result, negotiating with the Manchester-based club for the services of the 27-year-old might not be that straightforward for the London club.
