Manchester United prioritising 2024 move for Kalvin Phillips

Manchester United want to acquire the services of 28-year-old Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a priority basis.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are keen on having Kalvin Phillips in their ranks. The Red Devils want to sign him in 2024 and have made the 28-year-old England international their priority target. Phillps is not having the best of times at Manchester City, and their city rivals are ready to offer him a way out.

Kalvin Phillips: The Story So Far

Kalvin Phillips came up the ranks at Leeds United and proved himself in the English top flight before joining Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022 in a £45 million deal. He has tried his best to break into their first team, but it has not happened for him.

The 28-year-old has got limited game time over the last 18 months, and he is now looking to switch clubs as he seeks regular first-team action. Recently, even the Spanish manager has admitted that there is no place for Phillips in his team.

Shock Move to Manchester United on the Cards?

As a result, a loan move away from Manchester City this winter is almost certain, and he is expected to make a permanent switch in the summer. Manchester United are interested in the England international. Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the Manchester City midfielder and feels he could be a perfect fit for his style of play.

The Dutch tactician is keen on adding him to their ranks, and the Red Devils have made him their top priority for the summer of 2024. Casemiro’s form has become a concern, and he is already 31. As a result, ten Hag wants to add someone like Phillips to his arsenal at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, the new investors, who will soon complete the purchase of a minority stake in the club, are keen on building their team around English players, and he is surely amongst the best English players in the Premier League.

While it is very rare to see a Manchester City player move to Manchester United, this time there is a real possibility as Guardiola seems to have no problem selling players to his rivals. The Spanish manager is keen on resolving the Phillips situation and if that means a sale to United, he won’t stand in his way.
