Manchester City will have to pay £50 million to sign Tajon Buchanan in January as Pep Guardiola eyes a key attacking signing.
The Daily Star reckons Manchester City must pay £50 million to sign Tajon Buchanan in January. Pep Guardiola has set sights on the 24-year-old in-demand attacker from Club Brugge. The Belgian club are aware of the interest and will stick to their demands.
Manchester City in the Market for a Rare January Signing?
Many problems at Manchester City have surfaced with their poor performances in recent weeks. Pep Guardiola’s men are winless in four games, and their midweek loss to Aston Villa opened up the title race, as they have plenty to catch up on.
Guardiola reportedly feels his squad is not complete and may have wanted more from the summer. During that period, they lost key performers in Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, with suggestions that Manchester City may have needed to replace them adequately.
While he failed to sign some key midfield targets and ended up settling for alternatives, Guardiola also wanted a right winger to replace Mahrez. This season, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva have occupied that position in games. But the manager may wish to find a new option heading into the January transfer window.
There are a few names considered by Guardiola, with Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry being an option. It is not clear whether Guardiola specifically prefers a left-footer like Mahrez or would prefer a right-winger of a different profile. They did sign Jeremy Doku, who has displaced Jack Grealish down the left-hand side.
Kaoru Mitoma also remains a target, alongside Rafael Leao, but they are unrealistic targets ahead of the January transfer window. Hence, Manchester City are looking at different available options in the market and could have already narrowed down on a player that Guardiola probably likes.
Can Tajon Buchanan Solve the Problems at Manchester City?
Club Brugge’s Tajon Buchanan recently emerged as a target for Manchester City after a period of good performances from the 24-year-old in-demand attacker. The Belgian giants are reportedly demanding at least £50 million from suitors. But they may only want a sale next summer.
Manchester City’s interest could appeal to Buchanan, who will likely give his go-ahead ahead of the January window. Club Brugge are also aware of Inter Milan’s reported interest, which could help them stay adamant over their demands.
Guardiola may have identified the 24-year-old in-demand attacker as a proper target ahead of January to help them shore up the squad for the season ahead. His potential arrival could free up Foden and Silva to play different roles in the team, as Buchanan could provide the right impetus in the attacking third.
