Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing €60 million-rated Canadian international winger Tajon Buchanan from Club Brugge next summer.

According to Italian outlet TV Play.it, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are “studying moves to implement” in the next summer transfer window and could look to hijack Juventus and Inter’s move for talented Canadian attacker Tajon Buchanan.

The Canadian winger joined Brugge in 2021 after impressing in Major League Soccer with the New England Revolution. He scored 10 goals and provided as many assists in 57 appearances for the MLS side before being signed by the Belgian club.

The 24-year-old has been able to make a bright impression during his time in Belgium and has evolved into a mainstay in the starting XI since the start of last season, making 30 appearances across all competitions, including outings in all six Champions League matches in their run to the knockout stages during the 2022/23 campaign. He was also one of Canada’s standout players at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Needless to say, the Canadian speedster was attracting some major interest over the summer, with Inter Milan looking at the 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who was strongly linked with Manchester United. While that move never materialised due to a lack of finances, the Nerazzurri are still keen on bringing the Club Brugge winger to Serie A.

However, it seems like cash-rich Manchester City could put an end to their dreams once again by hijacking a transfer for Buchanan, with Pep Guardiola keen to add fresh faces out wide.

Having never played in a European top-five league before, Buchanan might be something of a gamble for City. But as a 35-cap Canada international who went to the World Cup, he at least has some experience at the top level.

Having signed explosive Belgian winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes for a hefty amount over the summer, City’s interest in a right wing-back does raise a few eyebrows given Guardiola’s preference to play with four centre-backs.

It has been widely reported that, even in the Sky Blues’ reported search for a new winger, they are on the lookout for players who are better suited at retaining the ball than running in behind and constantly taking on full-backs, like Grealish or Doku, for instance. As a result, a move for Buchanan seems far-fetched at this point in time.

Only time will tell what comes next for him. He is valued at a whopping €60 million by Club Brugge, who have him tied down at the club until 2025. But they are seemingly set to face interest in his services a couple of years before then.
