Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are all keen on exploring a move for Lois Openda despite RB Leipzig’s stance.
According to Fichajes, at least three big clubs from the Premier League are keen to sign Lois Openda in January. Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are looking at the RB Leipzig forward ahead of next month, although the Bundesliga club are not keen on selling.
Lois Openda: An Instant Hero in the Bundesliga
RB Leipzig made a few signings in the summer to replace some of their key departures in that window. They signed Lois Openda from RC Lens, and the Belgian striker has instantly made a mark in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
There is an opportunity opening up for the forward ahead of the January transfer window, as he has made 17 goal contributions for Leipzig already, finding the back of the net 14 times. A host of Premier League clubs had already set sights on him in the last few months, but some of those could intensify their efforts in the coming weeks.
He might have the chance to make a quick switch to the Premier League, but Leipzig could make things complicated for the striker. Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are currently exploring a move for the Belgian forward, but they will face plenty of difficulties along the way.
Will Lois Openda Move in January?
Arsenal saw links to Openda back in October and have seemingly retained their interest in the Belgian. There are others on their shortlist, but even if they pursue the Leipzig star with intent, he will cost a considerable transfer fee.
As per reports and Fabrizio Romano, Openda has a release clause worth €80 million, but that only kicks in in 2025. This means clubs like Manchester City and Manchester United must negotiate a higher fee with Leipzig if they want to convince the Bundesliga side to sell as early as January.
Leipzig have no interest in selling Openda in January, but there are chances of a big offer making them change that stance. Whether clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal have that level of funds to spend on a single player remains a big question, although Manchester City may have the means.
Manchester United are also keen, with Erik ten Hag keen on bringing in an additional forward to compete and complement Rasmus Hojlund. Similarly, Manchester City are keen on bringing in a strike partner for Erling Haaland, with the two clubs somewhat short in that area.
Overall, this race for Openda will depend on the offers Leipzig receive and their intention to sell. As things stand, the Bundesliga giants are not overly keen to do business, meaning the Belgian forward might remain on board, at least until the summer.
