Rayan Cherki could be sold in January

Chelsea uninterested in selling Christopher Nkunku amid PSG links.

Olympique Lyon could part ways with their 20-year-old attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki amidst interest from West Ham United and Chelsea.

According to a report by Foot Mercato, Olympique Lyon could part ways with their 20-year-old sensation Rayan Cherki in the upcoming winter transfer window. Cherki hasn’t been at his best of late and the French club could look to cash in on him if they fail to extend his contract.

Cherki has been a part of the Lyon youth ranks since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club at some pace. The 20-year-old made it to their first team back in the winter of 2020. He has featured in a total of 116 matches for the French club and has contributed towards 31 goals.

While he managed to burst onto the scene with impressive performances things haven’t been going according to plan of late. The French youth international hasn’t been able to have the desired impact. In his 14 outings, he has managed only one goal contribution.

A few months back there were reports of him being unsettled and his current performances have added fire to the rumours. The 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club and that could be a real possibility with his contract running out in the summer of 2025.

With just over 18 months left on his current contract, Lyon will try to offer him a new deal. If they fail to convince him to put pen to paper, the French club could look to cash in on him. €20 million could be the starting price for Cherki’s services but Lyon will look to make more than that from a potential sale.

Meanwhile, West Ham United and Chelsea are two clubs interested in the 20-year-old sensation. They wanted to sign him during the summer but couldn’t strike a deal for his services. Both Premier League clubs could return for his services in the upcoming transfer window.

The Blues have targeted young players with huge potential and Cherki certainly fits the bill. As far as the Hammers are concerned, David Moyes wants more creativity and the French youth international surely help his cause. He could be a great addition for the short as well as long run.
