Tottenham set sights on Jarrad Branthwaite

Tottenham have joined the hunt for Jarrad Branthwaite as Ange Postecoglou continues to search for a viable centre-back option.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham could join the chase for Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of the January transfer window. Many other rivals are also keen on the 21-year-old defender, and they could exploit Everton’s financial situation with a decent offer.

Jarrad Branthwaite has taken his opportunities well, especially last season’s loan spell at PSV Eindhoven. After a successful time in the Eredivisie, the 21-year-old returned to win a place in Sean Dyche’s side and has made a position for himself in the heart of that Toffees defence alongside James Tarkowski.

With Everton struggling this season, not on the sporting side but with their ten-point deduction in the Premier League, they could sell a handful of players to balance their books. Branthwaite, for his part, could fetch a handsome sum in the market, with a host of clubs interested, including Newcastle United and Manchester United.

The Red Devils are also in the market for a new centre-back, with Jarrad Branthwaite being someone Erik ten Hag reportedly likes. Reports have suggested that Manchester United could prioritise a move for him, but Everton are unlikely to sell him.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also entered the chase for the 21-year-old defender, with Ange Postecoglou also looking for a top-draw defender to join his ranks. If Branthwaite becomes available, the Spurs might attempt to sign him.

They are also interested in Ben Godfrey, with Everton demanding £20 million for the unwanted star, per the report. Spurs have struggled in recent weeks owing to the absence of crucial defender Micky van de Ven, who picked up a severe hamstring injury against Chelsea that would keep him out until January.

The three-game Premier League suspension for Cristian Romero exposed their defensive depth, which has cost them points and potentially their title challenge. Hence, signing the 21-year-old would entice Postecoglou, but they must remain mindful of the costs involved, as Everton will quote a massive sum for Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees are not about to sell their crucial defender to any interested parties in January, but they could open their doors next summer. Tottenham must wait in line for Branthwaite, as a move next month seems improbable.
