Newcastle United are quite serious about their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips amidst rival interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by 90min, Newcastle United are all set to step up their interest in Kalvin Phillips. The Magpies are looking to bolster their midfield in the upcoming transfer window and have their eyes set on the Manchester City midfielder. The former Leeds United star is also a target for Liverpool and Tottenham.

Kalvin Phillips made quite a name for himself while playing for Leeds United in the Premier League. On the back of his impressive performances, he secured a move to Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022. He was expected to slowly establish himself in the first team. But, things have not gone according to plan.

The 28-year-old midfielder has failed to break into their first team. He had limited game time in the first season, and City were ready to part ways with him in the summer. But, he wanted to fight for his place and decided to stay. Things have not improved one bit, and he is still way down the pecking order at City. As a result, he is now ready to leave, and City won’t stand in his way.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are all interested in the 28-year-old. The Merseyside club are looking for another defensive midfielder in order to complete their midfield overhaul. And, Phillips is someone who could easily fit into their system.

As for Tottenham, they lack depth in the centre of the park and Ange Postecoglou is keen on signing the England international to ensure they have enough in their tanks to achieve their objectives. While Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in his services, they are behind Newcastle United in the race.

The Magpies are looking for midfield reinforcement as summer signing Sandro Tonali has been banned because of his involvement in illegal betting. The Italian international won’t be available for the remainder of the season. As a result, Howe wants to sign a new midfielder, and he is keen on having Phillips in his ranks.

Newcastle Uinted have been interested in the City midfielder for a while now and are looking to push for his services in the upcoming window. Due to FFP concerns, the Magpies will most likely propose a loan deal. But City will only accept it if there is a buy option. Meanwhile, the report suggests the player is interested in joining the Magpies making things easier for Howe’s team.
