Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 28-year-old has a contract with the Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2025 and Christian Falk has revealed on CaughtOffside that the player could attract the attention of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Apparently, Manchester City manager Guardiola remains an admirer of the German international having walked with him during their time together at Bayern Munich. It will be interesting to see if Manchester City are prepared to submit an offer for him in the coming months.

Falk wrote: “Barcelona is very interested in Kimmich. If he comes onto the market next summer, some clubs in the Premier League will also look at him. Pep Guardiola is considered a big fan of Kimmich after having initially discovered and promoted him in Munich. The City coach appreciates Kimmich’s versatility as he can play in many positions. But Jürgen Klopp also knows Kimmich’s strengths, which would suit Liverpool FC well. The poker for Kimmich could soon be open.”

He will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season and the German outfit could consider selling him for a reasonable price. Kimmich has proven his quality under Guardiola in the past and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Liverpool need to sign a quality defensive midfielder as well at the 28-year-old certainly fits the profile. Jurgen Klopp knows all about the player having watched him closely over the years and he would suit Liverpool’s style of play as well.

Apparently, Barcelona are keen on signing the player as well along with the two Premier League clubs. However, it is fair to assume that the Spanish club might not be able to compete financially with Liverpool and Manchester City. Barcelona are going through financial difficulties and they are likely to miss out on the Germany international if it comes down to money.

Meanwhile, Liverpool tried to sign a defensive midfielder during this summer transfer window, but they failed to get the deal done. They need to bring in someone who can anchor the midfield and protect the defensive unit. Kimmich would be the ideal acquisition for them.

In addition to that, the Bayern Munich star can operate as a full back and he could be an alternative to Trent Alexander Arnold if needed. The German international would be the ideal acquisition for Liverpool on paper, and it remains to be seen whether they can beat Manchester City to his signature.
