Manchester United are expected to establish contact as they look to sign 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz.
According to a report by Sky Sport, Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Florian Wirtz. The 20-year-old has made quite a name for himself with impressive performances in the Bundesliga and he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Wirtz joined the Bayer Leverkusen youth ranks in the winter of 2020 from FC Köln. In just six months’ time, he made it to their first team and has since established himself as a first-team regular. He has already featured in 121 matches for the German club and has contributed towards 69 goals.
Leverkusen currently sit at the top of Bundesliga and one of the reasons for their dominance is the incredible form of the 20-year-old. He has featured in 18 matches in all competitions and has contributed with six goals and 10 assists.
His numbers along with his exceptional abilities on the ball have made him one of the best young stars in the world of football. Every top club in Europe seems to be interested in the German international. Bayern Munich have been linked with him of late and they would love to have him in their ranks.
While Bayern are a possible destination for the 20-year-old, Manchester United and Real Madrid are also scouting the 20-year-old. Top clubs will look to push for his services in the summer of 2024 but Leverkusen are looking to keep him at the club for another season after the Euro 2024.
While the German club will try to keep him at the club for the 2024-25 season, big clubs will surely look to prise him away after the end of the ongoing season. And, according to the report, Xabi Alonso’s team have set an asking price of over €120 million. A fee that Bayern Munich might not find easy to pay.
Manchester United feel he could be of great use to them. The 20-year-old could help them in the short as well as long term. While they haven’t established any contacts with the German international of his family yet, the report suggests it will soon happen.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid could be a threat to United in the pursuit of Wirtz’s signatures. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for exceptional players who can help their team and the Leverkusen attacking midfielder is someone who will surely bolster their squad. They might have spent big on Jude Bellingham in the summer but they still have the ability to land the German international at the club next summer.
