Ian Maatsen ready to sign Chelsea contract

Ian Maatsen could sign a new deal at Chelse before leaving on loan in January, as the club views him as a future asset.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are eager to tie Ian Maatsen down to a new contract and loan him in January. The 21-year-old prospect could pen the long-term deal at Stamford Bridge despite struggling for game time this season.

There are a lot of contrasting reports concerning Ian Maatsen as the January window inches closer. Chelsea does consider the 21-year-old prospect as a considerable talent to come out of their academy and remain convinced about his long-term prospects at Stamford Bridge.

The fact that he’s playing less regularly than Maatsen would have wanted is down to the talents ahead of him in the pecking order. Chelsea have shown they are open to different ideas with their players, especially those who have come out of their academy.

With FFP concerns lingering on the borderline, Chelsea have remained open-minded about selling some homegrown stars, including Maatsen. Burnley agreed a deal for the 21-year-old prospect late in the summer window, but the player rejected the idea of a return to the Clarets.

He played 42 times for Vincent Kompany’s side as they clinched the Championship title and gained promotion to the Premier League. The idea of doing it again in the top flight did not appeal to Maatsen, who chose to fight for his place. After the decision, Chelsea activated a one-year extension in his current contract, but they will continue.

Despite growing interest in the 21-year-old prospect, with reports pointing at clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool, Chelsea are more than convinced about tying Maatsen to a new deal. The player himself has admitted he’s considering options for the future, but right now, all things are under Chelsea’s control.

Chelsea were already planning to offer him a new deal, and now Maatsen could consider signing one before leaving on loan in January. The idea is to allow the 21-year-old prospect ample playing time to showcase his talents, and the Blues might consider letting him go temporarily.

Signing him down to a new long-term deal will allow Chelsea to protect his current value and benefit if he becomes a top player in the future. Hence, the chances of some of his suitors could diminish, although the Blues could still sell him if bids close to their valuations arrive for the Dutchman.
