Ligue 1 giants Marseille are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira on loan next year.

According to a report by French outlet Le 10 Sport, Fabio Vieira is the subject of interest from Marseille. The Ligue 1 giants share a healthy working relationship with Arsenal and want to secure the services of the Portuguese midfielder on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Fabio Vieira has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Arsenal from FC Porto in a deal worth €35 million. The 23-year-old spent all his formative years with Porto, apart from a season at Padroense. He graduated from the Portuguese club’s youth division in June 2020.

Vieira had gone under the radar for much of his youth career and early years as a first-team footballer. So, it was surprising when Arsenal shelled out €35 million to secure his services last year. The Portuguese midfielder has yet to establish a foothold at Arsenal, managing less than 2,000 minutes of game time thus far.

But Vieira’s stock has risen this season, with Mikel Arteta handing him more game time than last term. That has seemingly alerted prospective suitors to his quality, with Marseille interested in him. And the Ligue 1 giants want to use their healthy working relations with Arsenal to broker a loan deal.

Arsenal and Marseille have previously come together to seal loan deals for Matteo Guendouzi, William Saliba, and Nuno Tavares. Saliba’s spell at the Ligue 1 club eventually helped him establish a foothold at the Emirates. So, a stint at the Orange Velodrome might be in Vieira’s best interests.

With game time being hard to come by at Arsenal, the Portuguese midfielder can gain experience at the Ligue 1 club. The Gunners might not stand in Vieira’s way either, considering Mikel Arteta is pushing for a January deal for a midfielder. So, Marseille might land the 23-year-old in the January transfer window.
