Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is keen on staying in the Premier League amidst interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United.
According to a report by Calciomercato, Kalvin Phillips is looking to part ways with Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window after failing to break into their first team. While there is interest in him from across Europe, the 27-year-old’s priority is to stay in England and join a Premier League club.
Phillips proved himself in the English top flight with impressive performances for Leeds United. His consistent performances and impressive rise resulted in a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
The 27-year-old was expected to slowly become a first-team regular at the club. But, things haven’t gone according to plan for the England international. He has failed to impress Pep Guardiola and force his way into the XI.
While his contract with City runs until the summer of 2028, they were ready to part ways with him in the last summer window. But, the player was keen on proving himself. However, things haven’t changed and he is still not an important part of their first team.
Phillips is now keen on making a move away from the club. He is ready to make a move in the winter window and there is interest in him from across Europe. Juventus are one of the big clubs that want to sign the 27-year-old. But, the player prefers staying in the Premier League and Liverpool as well as Newcastle United are keen on having him in their ranks.
The Merseyside club’s midfield overhaul is not yet complete. They might have signed multiple midfielders in the summer but they still need another defensive midfielder. The England international could be a great fit for the club. While they are keen, City might not want to sell the former Leeds midfielder to a direct rival.
Even the Magpies are ready to push hard for his services. With Sandro Tonali banned for 10 months because of illegal betting, Eddie Howe is keen on signing a new midfielder in the winter and Phillips could be a great option to have in their ranks. With the player keen on making a move to another Premier League club, both Liverpool and Newcastle do stand a chance of acquiring him in the near future.
