Chelsea might not push for the services of 27-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the winter transfer window.

According to Ben Jacobs via GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea are looking to sign an elite striker in the near future to further bolster their attack. The Blues are interested in the services of Ivan Toney but they might not pursue his signatures in the upcoming transfer window.

Toney joined Brentford in the summer of 2020 and has gone from strength to strength since. He has done wonders in the English top-flight and there is a lot of interest in his services. While the 27-year-old is currently serving a ban for being involved in illegal betting, he will make his return mid January.

And, there will be enough time for clubs to acquire his services from Brentford. Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been linked with the England international for a while now. The Blues might have scored a handful of goals of late but they have struggled at times in front of goal and signing a new striker is their priority.

Despite having spent millions on new forwards, things haven’t gone according to plan for them. And, it will be interesting to see what kind of approach Chelsea have in the winter window. They have targeted young players with huge potential over the past few windows but they are looking to land an elite striker in the near future.

Toney is a great option to have but they might decide against pushing for his signatures because of different reasons. The biggest reason is the fact that Brentford are reportedly looking for a fee of over £100 million. The Blues do have the financial strength but making such a big move in the winter for a 27-year-old is something that they might not pursue.

The London club could instead wait for the summer of 2024 before signing a new world-class number nine. For now, they have options to work with and the recent form suggests they can survive without an elite striker.

Meanwhile, the report also suggests that tension between Mauricio Pochettino and the board is growing. The Argentine manager is not happy with the squad at his disposal. The feeling is that the Blues are focused on the player’s profile, they are not looking into the fact whether the new signing fit Pochettino’s style of play or not. Because of the growing tension, the Blues might have a more reserved approach in the upcoming window.
