Ederson has been linked with the move away from Atalanta in the last few days, with Barcelona and Newcastle United interested.

Newcastle United are keen on signing Ederson. But a report from Calciomercato has claimed that the Magpies have now failed with an approach for the 24-year-old Barcelona target. Apparently, Atalanta have refused to sell the player in January.

Ederson is reported to be a target for Barcelona as well. The reigning La Liga champions need to add more depth to their midfield. So, it is no surprise that they are keen on the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder. The midfielder is reportedly valued at €45 million, and he has established himself as a key player for the Italian club.

He has put on impressive performances for Atalanta, and he could have been a quality acquisition for Newcastle United as well. It will be interesting to see if the Tyneside outfit decide to move for other midfielders after failing to sign him.

The Magpies need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park. Summer signing Sandro Tonali was recently handed a 10-month ban for his involvement in an illegal betting scandal. So, Newcastle United must look to bring in adequate replacements during the January transfer window.

Signing a midfielder should be a top priority for Newcastle right now. Meanwhile, a move to the Premier League would have been an exciting opportunity for the Brazilian as well. It remains to be seen whether any other European clubs are willing to provide him with an exit route in January.

Barcelona are keeping tabs on him. But the Blaugrana have limited financial resources, and they might struggle to sign the player because of his €45 million asking price. Ederson would have added creativity and control in the middle of the park for Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old has five goals across all competitions this season, and he has the technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle decide to return for the player once again at the end of the season.
