Santiago Gimenez has been rumoured to move away from Feyenoord in recent weeks, with Chelsea and Tottenham linked.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Caught Offside that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Santiago Gimenez. Apparently, Tottenham have scouted the 22-year-old multiple times but Chelsea are not prioritising a move for him yet.

“We continue to have rumours about Santiago Gimenez, who is doing very well at Feyenoord – rumours about Chelsea and about Tottenham, but from what I can tell you, Tottenham sent their people to follow Gimenez multiple times, he’s going very well and scoring goals, but at the same time I’m hearing Chelsea are not making him a priority and are focusing on other players,” Romano said.

It is no secret that both clubs need to sign a quality striker, and the 22-year-old Mexican has emerged as a viable target. Tottenham have scouted him extensively in recent months, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to come forward with an offer during the January transfer window.

They sanctioned the departure of Harry Kane during the summer transfer window and are yet to replace him adequately. Richarlison has not been able to step up after the departure of the England international, and Son Heung-min has had to carry the goalscoring burden all by himself. Tottenham thus need to bring in players who can support him and share the goal-scoring burden.

Gimenez is a proven goalscorer and could prove to be a solid addition to the Tottenham squad. He scored 23 goals across all competitions last season and helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title. He has been in fine form this season as well, scoring 15 goals across all competitions.

The opportunity to play for Tottenham will be an attractive option for the player, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham come forward with an offer soon. The player has been linked with a number of other European clubs, and Tottenham should look to make their move quickly.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need to bring in a reliable goalscorer as well. They signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal during the summer transfer window, but he has blown hot and cold so far. They have been monitoring the Mexican striker as well. But Romano has claimed that Chelsea are not pushing for him just yet.

Apparently, Chelsea are keeping other options open as well. It will be interesting to see if the Blues decide to prioritise a move for him in the coming weeks. Chelsea need to bolster their squad to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They have not been able to score goals consistently and signing someone like Gimenez could transform them in the final third.
