Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz has been linked with a move away from the North London club, with Serie A outfit Bologna keen.

A report by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness has claimed that Bologna are looking to sign highly-rated Tottenham attacker Alejo Veliz during the January transfer window. Apparently, the Serie A  club are long-term admirers of the former Rosario Central striker.

Bologna were hoping to sign him before he joined Tottenham Hotspur, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince Spurs to let them sign the player midway through the season. Apparently, the Serie A outfit are hoping to sign the player on loan with the option to buy.

It seems highly unlikely that Tottenham will agree to such a deal. They might be open to loaning the player out so that he can gain valuable first-team experience. But a purchase option clause is unlikely to be included in the contract.

Tottenham value the striker highly, and they paid €15 million for his services. They expect him to develop into an important first-team player in the near future. Veliz is highly rated in South America, and he will hope to make his mark in English football in the coming seasons as well.

However, the 20-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career to continue his development. An exit in January could be ideal for all parties, and regular football during the second half of the season could help Veliz return to the North London club as a better player next season.

If Tottenham put the 20-year-old up for loan in January, Bologna are unlikely to be the only club keen on him. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually. Meanwhile, Tottenham need a quality attacker themselves, and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to give the 20-year-old an opportunity in the coming weeks.

Richarlison has been quite underwhelming, meaning Tottenham need someone who can support Son Heung-min. The youngster will be raring to prove himself in the Premier League and will want to grab any opportunity that comes his way. Although Veliz is still adapting to life in England and might not be ready for the Premier League yet, Tottenham could look to give him opportunities against weaker opposition.

It will be interesting to see how his situation unfolds over the next few weeks. If he does not get ample opportunities at the north London club, it makes sense for him to secure a transfer away in January for the sake of his own development. Given the fact that he is highly rated at Bologna, a loan move to the Serie A club would be ideal.
