Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Argentine defender Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.

A report from Fichajes has claimed that Cristian Romero is a target for Real Madrid. The Spanish giants could look to make a move for the 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender in the coming months.

The Argentine international has established himself as a key player for Tottenham since joining the club. Spurs signed him on an initial loan deal in 2021 before completing a permanent transfer for €50 million in August 2022.

Since then, he has become one of the best defenders in the Premier League. So, it is hardly a surprise that the top clubs are keen on securing his signature. However, it is highly unlikely that Tottenham sanction his departure any time soon. He is undoubtedly the best defender at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and his exit would be a massive blow for the North London club.

Tottenham must hold onto their best players if they want to return to the UEFA Champions League and compete for major trophies. Keeping Cristian Romero at the club for the long term should be a top priority for them.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid need to improve their defence, and the arrival of Romero would improve them immensely. They are the biggest club in the world, and the 25-year-old Argentine international could be tempted to join them. The opportunity to play for Real Madrid can be hard to turn down for any player.

In addition to that, they are used to challenging for major trophies every season. So, any player would want to play for them. It will be interesting to see if they can turn the player’s head with an offer at the end of the season. It is fair to assume that a move in January is unlikely. But Real Madrid have other candidates on their wishlist, including Goncalo Inacio.

Romero has proven his quality in Italy and England. He might be keen on testing himself in Spanish football now. There is no doubt that he is good enough to play for Real Madrid, and he could develop into one of the best defenders in the world for them.

The World Cup winner would certainly improve them defensively, and it remains to be seen whether Los Blancos can agree on a reasonable fee with Tottenham in the coming months. Daniel Levy can be a difficult person to negotiate with, and he might demand a premium for Romero.
