Ivan Toney has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Dean Jones has revealed on Give Me Sport that Ivan Toney could be open to a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old Brentford striker is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.
Ange Postecoglou has done a splendid job at Tottenham since taking over, and Spurs are very much in the conversation for the title race so far. They have impressed fans and neutrals with their free-flowing attacking football, and they might make a move for the Brentford striker.
Dean Jones said, “I think Tottenham is an interesting prospect for Toney to consider. Speaking to a couple of sources close to Tottenham, I’m not sure that they would consider themselves to be favourites in that situation. Obviously, the money that’s now being talked about makes me doubt whether a Tottenham move could actually come through in the new year.”
“But I think, from a player perspective, if you were to wonder how you would fit into a team and a squad, personally, I think that you’d look at Ange Postecoglou and how he is getting the best out of people. That’s the sort of manager I would want, and I think a lot of the modern players will be looking towards having a role model like that.”
Toney wants to play for the big clubs, and the opportunity to move to Tottenham could prove to be hard to turn down. The striker has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea as well.
Arsenal could certainly use another reliable goalscorer. The 27-year-old could form a quality partnership with Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian striker has been outstanding since his move from Manchester City, but he is not a prolific goalscorer. Toney could fill that void and improve Arsenal going forward.
Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson during the summer transfer window, but his performances have been inconsistent. Chelsea will need to sign a more reliable goalscorer if they want to compete for the major trophies. Someone like Toney could be ideal for them. The 27-year-old knows the Premier League well and should be able to hit the ground running at Stanford Bridge. Chelsea have the finances to get the deal done as well.
Meanwhile, Tottenham need to replace Harry Kane, and the 27-year-old certainly fits the profile. All three clubs would be an exciting destination for the striker, and it will be interesting to see where he plays during the second half of the campaign.
The striker is currently suspended for breaching gambling regulations, and he will return to action midway through January. He has not played for several weeks, and the 27-year-old will be raring to showcase his quality during the second half of the campaign.
