Serie A giants Juventus have reportedly been linked with a move for the Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal.

Emerson Royal has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur, and it seems that Juventus are prepared to provide him with an exit route as per Calciomercato. The €25 million defender is now the second-choice full-back at the North London club following the arrival of Pedro Porro.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to cash in on the defender, who joined them in a €25 million deal, in the coming months. They could use more quality and depth in the central defensive unit, and selling the full-back would give them the funds to sign a quality central defender.

Emerson Royal has had a mixed spell at Tottenham since joining the club from Barcelona. The Brazilian international has put in some impressive performances for the North Londoners, but he can be quite vulnerable defensively as well.

Spurs will need better players if they want to compete for major trophies and selling Emerson Royal, which they considered this past summer, might not be a bad idea for them. The North London outfit will probably hope to make a profit on him, and it remains to be seen whether Juventus can agree on a reasonable fee with them.

The Brazilian will want to play regularly at this stage of his career, and if Juventus can provide him with game-time assurances, joining them will be an attractive option for him. The Bianconeri are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and they will be able to provide him with the platform to compete for league titles.

Tottenham have started the season well, and they are currently second in the league table. They will be hoping to push for Champions League qualification and need to bring in the right additions during the January transfer window.

Selling their fringe players in the coming months and bringing in the right additions to improve the squad could prove to be defining for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou. Emerson Royal is certainly an expendable asset for Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see where his future lies.
