Tottenham Hotspur are ready to sell Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Peter O’Rourke via GiveMeSport, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur appear set to part ways with Emerson Royal; in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Brazilian full-back arrived at N-17 from Barcelona in 2021 but has not managed to impress on a consistent basis. Emerson has so far made 73 appearances for Spurs across all competitions, scoring thrice and assisting two more.

It is fair to say that he has not quite lived up to expectations and is more of a miss than a hit. Poor in defence, the South American’s strength lies in going forward. However, his poor return in terms of goal contributions does little justice to deploying him as a wing-back.

To put matters into context, Ivan Perisic who joined Tottenham last summer already has 12 goal contributions to his name on the other flank. With Pedro Porro now also in the ranks, it is fair to say that Emerson’s days in north London are numbered.

The player’s father has in the past spoken of his son’s desire to play for Real Madrid. While being ambitious is not bad, the 24-year-old has shown little at Spurs to warrant a move to the Bernabeu. Surely, the standards are higher.

Tottenham face a pivotal summer, and one player they are not averse to losing is Emerson. While the chances of Real Madrid coming in is extremely remote, there should be other teams who are willing to take a punt on the 24-year-old.

Emerson has never quite fit in at Tottenham and impressive performances have been more of an exception than the norm. Little is likely to change regardless of who the new manager is. Recouping what they can for the defender will help Daniel Levy add to his transfer kitty.

The Brazilian is currently the second-choice right-back and has little chance of overtaking Porro at this point in time. With the winds of change set to come to Tottenham, there is no better time than now for the North Londoners to bid goodbye to another underperforming asset. Tottenham were seeking a price of €25 million for Emerson in January. Whether they will get it now is debatable.
