West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 29-year-old Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski from Serie A champions Napoli.
A report by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness has claimed that West Ham United will battle it out with Premier League rivals Liverpool for the signature of Piotr Zielinski. The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Napoli, and he will be able to leave the club on a Bosman move next year.
It will be interesting to see if Napoli decide to sell him in January to avoid losing the Pole for free in the summer of 2024. West Ham are hoping to snap him up on a bargain at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to join them.
The Hammers have shown great progress over the last 12 months, and they managed to win the UEFA Europa Conference league last year. They are currently competing in the UEFA Europa League, and the 29-year-old could be attracted to the idea of joining them in the coming months.
Zielinski has shown his quality in Serie A, and the opportunity to showcase his ability in the Premier League can prove to be hard to turn down. Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer could prove to be a shrewd investment, and West Ham would do well to secure his services.
That said, the 29-year-old might want to join a bigger club capable of challenging for trophies. So, Liverpool might be a more attractive destination for him. The Reds have tried to sign him in the past, and it will be interesting to see if they can secure his services in a Bosman move.
Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been linked with an exit from the club as a free agent, and Zielinski could be a quality alternative. The 29-year-old helped Napoli win the Serie A title last season, and he is at the peak of his powers. He could make an immediate impact in the Premier League and help both clubs improve in the middle of the park.
