Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski from Serie A club Napoli.

According to a report from Rudy Galetti, Piotr Zielinski has been on Jurgen Klopp’s transfer wishlist. And Liverpool could make a move for the 28-year-old Polish international to bolster their midfield unit.

Zielinski has been a key player for Napoli since joining the Serie A club, and he was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool prior to his move to Italy. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool decide to come forward with a concrete proposal to sign the 28-year-old at the end of the season.

Napoli are currently fighting for the Serie A title and are unlikely to sanction the departure of a key player midway through the season. The Polish international is at the peak of his powers and could improve Liverpool significantly.

Furthermore, he has a contract with Napoli until the summer of 2024 and could be available for a reasonable price at the end of the season. The 28-year-old has seven goals and seven assists to his name across all competitions this season. And Zielinski would add some much-needed creativity in the middle of the park.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have not been able to hit top form this season. In addition, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita are reaching the end of their respective contracts. So Klopp will need to replace them in the coming months. And the in-form Zielinski could be a quality signing for Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Sofyan Amrabat and Mikel Merino reportedly emerging on their radar. And 28-year-old Polish midfielder Zielinski is Liverpool’s latest target.

Bringing in midfield reinforcements should be the top priority for the Reds. And it remains to be seen whether they can address the weaknesses in the squad and return to their former glories. That said, Liverpool are currently struggling to get into the top four and will need to secure Champions League football in order to attract top players like Zielinski to the club.
