Erik ten Hag reported ‘dreams’ of signing Victor Osimhen ahead of the January window, but can they afford him at his current price?

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Victor Osimhen ahead of the January window. Erik ten Hag ‘dreams’ of signing the 24-year-old striker to complement his attacking setup, but the financial implications may prove problematic.

Every top team in the continent would have sat up on their seats when Napoli and Victor Osimhen had their fallout earlier in the season. A TikTok video enraged the 24-year-old striker, which caused rumours that he might leave in January.

Liverpool are among those keen and increasingly keeping close tabs on the Nigerian ahead of the January window. Osimhen remains one of the most formidable frontmen in world football, and if Napoli decides to cash in on him, all top clubs will queue up for his signature.

Chelsea are also one of those keen and considered front runners, but many other clubs could cone into the chase depending on the circumstance around January. Napoli are not about to let him leave on the cheap, despite the contractual situation of the 24-year-old striker.

Napoli will reportedly demand £140 million or more for Osimhen, which could put off many interested sides from this pursuit. Whether that sum is what Manchester United envisage playing, then they can consider themselves part of the chasing pack.

During the summer, Manchester United desperately sought a new striker and may have even thought about signing the 24-year-old striker as an option. Napoli would never let him go for the £100 million prices widely quoted in the media then.

They eventually ended up paying big for Rasmus Hojlund, but the Danish striker has not got off to a good start in the Premier League. He has not yet scored a goal but has netted thrice in the Champions League, but Erik Ten Hag may want another, more experienced option.

The report claims Ten Hag reportedly dreams of signing Osimhen in January to shore up his attacking option. Whether Manchester United can procure the required funds to make this transfer happen remains the question, but anything seems possible with this club.

For now, Napoli are likely to show no interest in entertaining offers for their star man. If any club comes close to their asking price, their thinking might change. For now, the chances of Osimhen leaving appear slim, but stranger things have happened in the January window before.
