Saudi Arabian clubs are keen on Raphael Varane ahead of the January window, as Manchester United might see movements to their defensive setup.

According to Team Talk, Raphael Varane reportedly has the interest of Saudi Arabian clubs ahead of the January window. Several Middle Eastern sides are keen on the 30-year-old Manchester United star, as the Red Devils might ponder movements to their backline during the winter months.

During the latter stages of the summer transfer window, Saudi Arabian clubs made late efforts to sign a new central defender. The PIF-owned sides were intent on bringing a top-draw name. Those included Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.

They might have also considered Manchester United’s Raphael Varane around then, but no reports stated that. Now, Saudi Pro League sides are planning on exploring a move for the 30-year-old Manchester United star ahead of the January window.

Manchester United are keen to target defenders during the new window after struggling with injured stars. Lisandro Martinez and Varane had seen considerable periods on the sidelines. The former is still out for the foreseeable future.

There are question marks about Manchester United’s finances and whether they can afford to spend big, especially on defenders. There are links to Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, among others, but the Italian will still cost more than €40 million.

Crystal Palace quoted £60 million-plus for Marc Guehi, with Manchester United not in a position to pay exorbitant prices. They could do that if they sell some of their stars. Hence, the idea of selling the 30-year-old Frenchman may appeal to those in charge at the club.

Varane was recently kept on the bench for the Manchester Derby as veteran Jonny Evans took his place at the back. Hence, there’s a bit of speculation on if the 30-year-old Manchester United star would consider his long-term future.

Manchester United could sense an ample opportunity from Saudi Clubs if they are keen on Varane. In January, the Frenchman will have 18 months left on his deal. It’s probably the best time for the club to cash in on the centre-back, especially if they do not see him as part of their long-term plans.
