Manchester United told to fork out £60 million for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi

Manchester United could do with a reliable young centre-back and Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi fits the bill. The Englishman is one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League and continues to see his star rise with every passing game.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Chelsea but never quite got going at the West London side’s senior squad. While loan spells at Swansea City gave us an idea of what to expect, the move to Palace in 2021 has proven to be an inspired decision.

In fact, Guehi has since established himself as a first-XI regular at Selhurst Park, making 92 appearances across all competitions. In that time, he has scored five goals and assisted one more.

A physically strong player, Guehi is a supreme athlete who can hold his own in the Premier League. Manchester United are in need of a no-nonsense defender and the Palace star fits the bill to a tee.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are struggling with injuries while Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are inconsistent. According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are interested in Guehi and have been made aware that it will take them a bid of £60m to land the 23-year-old.

Matching the asking price will make him Palace’s most expensive sale ever, breaking the record set by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s £50m move to Old Trafford in 2019.  The Red Devils are certainly excellent customers.

Guehi’s contract at Selhurst Park expires in the summer of 2024 and unless an extension can be agreed upon, Palace will do well to sell him for top dollar in the upcoming transfer windows. The Eagles are on a downward spiral this season and there is admittedly only so much that Guehi can achieve if he stays put.

Manchester United are on the rebuild and will need the right players to take them to the next level. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s move likely to be accepted, there should be new decision-makers at Old Trafford soon. Whether this means an influx of British players will now arrive at the Theatre of Dreams remains to be seen.
