According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are keen on signing a new midfielder in the winter transfer window and they have their eyes set on Ruben Neves. The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder wants to return to the Premier League and dreams of playing for the Magpies.

Neves came through the ranks at FC Porto before joining Wolves in the summer of 2017. He went from strength to strength during his time at the English club and was on the radar of quite a few top clubs but he ended up joining Al Hilal last summer.

The 26-year-old is doing a great job for the Saudi Arabian club and he seems to be quite happy. The Portuguese midfielder has more than two years left on his deal at the club but he still has a desire of returning to the Premier League. And, given the ongoing situation of Newcastle United, he dreams of making a move to the Magpies.

Newcastle have been doing wonders over the past few seasons. After qualifying for the Champions League thanks to their heroics last season, they went into the market and signed a marquee midfielder in Sandro Tonali. They paid big bucks to land him at the club from AC Milan.

He got off to a great start but the 23-year-old has now received a 10-month-long ban. He was involved in illegal betting during his days in Italy, as a result, he won’t take any further part in the season. Tonali’s absence has left a huge void and the Magpies have started looking for a replacement.

They have their eyes on Neves and the player seems to be keen on a return to the Premier League The Magpies could end up signing him on loan from the Saudi Pro League club.

Both Newcastle and Al Hilal are backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. As a result, a loan move during the winter window could easily be struck. While no details have been revealed yet, there is interest from the Magpies and Neves seems interested in the move according to the report.
