Newcastle United are reportedly considering signing Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

A report from Fichajes has claimed that Newcastle United are weighing up a January move for 31-year-old Manchester United playmaker Christian Eriksen. The Magpies are in the market for a midfielder following Sandro Tonali’s betting-related suspension.

The Denmark international has struggled for ample game time at Manchester United season, and he has had just 401 minutes of first-team action in the Premier League. He has started just three league matches for Manchester United and will be hoping to play more often.

Christian Eriksen is 31 years old, and he is at the twilight stage of his career. He cannot afford to sit on the bench every week, and moving to Newcastle United could be ideal for him if they can offer him a game time.

Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has recently received a 10-month ban because of his involvement in a betting scandal. Although the Italian international midfielder is a defensive midfielder and Eriksen is a playmaker, the 31-year-old is being tipped as a potential replacement for the Italian.

Eriksen could be available for a reasonable amount of money given his situation at Old Trafford. He will be a free agent in the summer, so Manchester United might look to cash in on him if they do not plan to use him regularly. He has previously proven his quality in the Premier League with Tottenham, and he helped them challenge for the league title and reach the UEFA Champions League final.

Newcastle are currently competing in the Champions League, and they will want to do well in the European competition. It will be interesting to see if they bring in the right reinforcements during the January transfer window and improve the squad. Meanwhile, they have also shown interest in other midfielders like Kalvin Phillips.

It has been a mediocre start for Newcastle United this season, and they will need to make amends quickly if they want to challenge for trophies and end the season on a high. Meanwhile, Manchester United already have a number of playmakers like Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount at their disposal. It makes sense for them to cash in on someone who has struggled to play regularly for them this season.
