Aston Villa ahead of Manchester United in Nahuel Molina chase

Aston Villa are making themselves the clear front-runners for Nahuel Molina, with Manchester United also in the hunt.

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are sweating over the future of Nahuel Molina ahead of the January transfer window. Aston Villa have emerged as the front-runners for the World Cup winner, whose release clause is worth €30 million, with Manchester United also keeping an eye on the Argentine.

Premier League sides are looking to strengthen their squads with quality players. Some focus will fall on the Spanish clubs who may have made mistakes with low release clauses in player contracts. And Atletico Madrid are sweating over the future of one of their important stars.

Diego Simeone has always relied on some players who can give him long, solid seasons. One of them is Nahuel Molina, with the Argentine firmly settled at Atletico Madrid and within his manager’s plans. However, the Rojiblancos are now concerned over his future ahead of the January window, with Premier League clubs ready to take advantage of his situation.

Atletico Madrid are in a hurry to offer the €30 million-rated World Cup winner a new deal and increase his release clause to €90 million. Such a thing can prove successful, but Molina may have already known about the solid interest from the Premier League.

Not only will a move to England elevate his salary, but also the playing levels. Molina’s release clause stands at €30 million. Hence, clubs like Aston Villa and Manchester United might push towards making an approach.

Aston Villa have stayed interested in the right-back, with Unai Emery seeking a change in the position. Bringing the World Cup winner would elevate their levels in that role, but others could compete for the full-back spot.

Beyond Matty Cash, Emery does not have too many quality options other than playing one of his centre-backs like Ezri Konsa in that role. The Basque manager expects a lot more attacking output from the full-back role, and Molina fits the bill.

As per the report, Aston Villa have positioned themselves as the front-runners for Molina and possibly ahead of Manchester United, who are also keen. The Red Devils have a tricky decision on their hands with the right-back slot. They recently scouted Sacha Boey along with Arsenal, but they might spring at the chance of signing the Atletico star.

Then there’s the situation with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s new contract, with reports suggesting they had ramped up their efforts to tie the former Crystal Palace star. However, if they can manage a sale in January for a decent price, Erik ten Hag might look to re-invest it into buying a new player in that position.

The €30 million-rated World Cup winner would perfectly suit ten Hag’s ideas, as he could showcase his attacking game at Old Trafford. With all the interest in the Argentine, there is a chance he might not entertain talks of a new contract and wait for Premier League sides to make their move.
