West Ham United are ready to boost their striker options with AZ Alkmaar star Vangelis Pavlidis, one of the in-form forwards in Europe.
According to 90 Min, West Ham United are keen on Vangelis Pavlidis, the in-form AZ Alkmaar striker, ahead of the January window. Technical director Tim Steidten wants a new forward to bolster their options with their current choices, not showing signs of a prolific season.
West Ham have had a solid start to their season, especially when compared to how they began the previous campaign. With their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, the Hammers finished the weekend in 9th spot, although they are very much in the race for a European place.
In Europe, the Hammers have been in a different vein of form since last season when they won the Conference League. This time around, in the Europa League, they have both their games and remained top of their group. David Moyes would want the run to continue and see more improvements in the league, while he will also hope for another productive transfer window in January.
The Hammers are looking at a wide attacker in the January market, with Galatasaray’s Karem Akturkoglu one of their targets for the next window. Meanwhile, Technical director Tim Steidten also wants a new striker to bolster the options on the front line.
Michail Antonio has scored twice in the league, while backup Danny Ings is yet to get off the mark. Relying on those two could cause problems for the Hammers with their objectives, hence the need to bring in a prolific option to get them going.
There are links to several options, including PSG’s Hugo Ekitike, a striker that Moyes wanted during the summer. Now, AZ Alkmaar’s prolific star Vanglis Palvildis emerges on their list as Steidten could ponder making an offer in the January window.
With 14 goals in 15 matches across all competitions, the 24-year-old attacker is one of the in-form players in the continent. A hattrick against Heerenveen in the Eredivisie also helped him match Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez’s league-high tally of 13 strikes, which also meant he bettered his tally from last season with only nine games played.
Those numbers are seriously exciting for any technical director to look at the 24-year-old attacker from Alkmaar. He’s one of many prolific strikers the Hammers are looking at, with 14-goal Bundesliga attacker Serhou Guirassy also on their shortlist.
As the Hammers ponder making a move for Pavlidis in January, any deal will depend on Alkmaar’s asking price for their key star. As things stand, there are not many clubs looking at the 24-year-old attacker, which might change in the coming months. It also gives the Hammers the chance to sort out a deal early and bring the striker to the London Stadium.
