Reigning La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly revived their interest in 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Youssoufa Moukoko is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The defending La Liga champions have reignited their interest in the teenage sensation. The 18-year-old forward is unhappy and discontent at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Youssoufa Moukoko was arguably the most highly-rated young prospect in the world when he broke into the Borussia Dortmund first-team squad. The German international was so influential in his youth career that he compelled the Bundesliga to lower the limit for a player to make his senior debut.

The 18-year-old made his first-team bow for Borussia Dortmund a day after his 16th birthday. But he has not stamped his authority in the three years since then, struggling to establish a foothold in the senior squad. Moukoko has managed only 66 minutes of game time thus far this term, scoring once.

So, it is hardly surprising that the teenage sensation is disgruntled at his situation, which might also force him to miss many call-ups to the international team. Several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, are thus keen on signing him. And Barcelona will also look to secure Moukoko’s services next year.

Barcelona will greet Vitor Roque in the January transfer window, with the Blaugrana striking a deal with Athletico Paranaense for the Brazilian wonderkid. But Robert Lewandowski is well into his thirties and approaching the end of his glittering career. So, it behoves Barcelona to plan for the Polish striker’s succession.

Several strikers, including Julian Alvarez, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. But Moukoko is also a viable target for the Blaugrana. The reigning La Liga champions view the 18-year-old forward as the heir to Lewandowski’s position. So, they will look to prise him away from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

The Black and Yellows might not entertain offers for a permanent deal, considering they recently tied him to a new contract. But Moukoko’s wish will hold the key, meaning Barcelona will have to convince him to call it quits at the Bundesliga club.
