Manchester City join race to sign Khephren Thuram

Liverpool inch closer to signing Newcastle United target Khephren Thuram.

Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old French midfielder Khephren Thuram as they aim to add to a top-class midfield unit.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Khephren Thuram is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are keen on adding to their midfield unit. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old OGC Nice midfielder is also a target for Serie A giants Juventus.

Khephren Thuram has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world. The Frenchman is a native of Reggio Emilia but spent his formative years in France instead of Italy. He began his youth career at Olympique de Neuilly before remaining at AC Boulogne-Billancourt for three years.

The 22-year-old graduated from the AS Monaco Academy but rose in prominence after joining OGC Nice. Thuram, the son of France legend Lilian Thuram and younger brother of Marcus, has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Nice, chipping in with eight goals and 11 assists.

Thuram’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs in Europe. Recent reports have linked the youngster with Serie A heavyweights Juventus. The Italian giants now face stiff competition from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The treble winners already have a loaded first-team squad consisting of top-notch midfielders. They even bolstered their midfield unit by signing Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in the summer transfer window. But Kalvin Phillips faces an uncertain future at the Etihad, with Manchester City ready to cash in on him.

Khephren Thuram has thus emerged as a viable target. With the 22-year-old French midfielder being a versatile midfielder, he can become an asset for Manchester City. But the Premier League champions need to fend off stiff competition from other European heavyweights for his signature.

Recent reports have also linked the Frenchman with Premier League heavyweights like Liverpool and Newcastle United. But the opportunity to join Manchester City might turn his head. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Juventus can beat the Premier League champions to the 22-year-old midfielder.
