Juventus are considering a move for Jorginho if Arsenal allow him to leave on a free in January amid a midfield crisis in Turin.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus are considering a swoop for Jorginho ahead of the January window on the condition that Arsenal let him go for free. There is a midfield crisis brewing in Turin with the Bianconeri in the hunt for new players. But the Gunners are unlikely to show an interest.
After the many controversies Juventus faced last season, they managed to start the current campaign with some calmness. When it looked like one storm had passed, two new situations arose in Turin with their key midfielders.
For starters, Paul Pogba stares at a long ban for failing a doping test. Then Nicolo Fagioli got hit by a betting controversy, with the midfielder set for a seven-month suspension from football. In all, it leaves Massimiliano Allegri short of key midfielders as Juventus are considering options in the market.
Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains a target, and now they might consider swooping for Jorginho over at Arsenal. The Italian international continues to remain a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans but not an automatic first choice.
Having arrived last January for a fee of £10-12 million, Arteta does hold him in high regard. Jorginho made his first start against Manchester City before the international break, and that decision showed the manager’s faith in the cultured Arsenal midfielder.
Juventus and Barcelona have shown an interest before. But for both sides, the conditions must be right to make the move. For instance, the Bianconeri are not overly keen on players over the age of 30, but with Jorginho, they have had a long-term interest. Secondly, they want to sign him on a free transfer, which would require Arsenal to agree to those terms.
Considering how much quality Jorginho adds to Arsenal’s midfield depth, Arteta will hesitate to sanction such a move. Moreover, The Gunners paid his fee when he had six months to run on his Chelsea contract and would certainly want something in return to sell him in the next window.
When he becomes a free agent in the summer, naturally, many clubs will show an interest. Saudi clubs are already thinking about him, and they could make a compelling offer. Hence, Juventus must make a solid enough offer to please Arsenal and the midfielder to have any chance of signing him.
