Barcelona will reportedly prioritise tying Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski to new contracts in the coming weeks.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski are not approaching the end of their respective contracts with Barcelona. But the Catalan giants are still keen on tying the two pivotal figures to new deals in the coming weeks.

Frenkie de Jong has scripted a remarkable turnaround at FC Barcelona, who had put him up for sale last year. With their never-ending financial issues not disappearing, the Catalan giants looked at the Dutchman as their cash cow. But the player was determined to remain at the club and rejected approaches from other bigwigs.

The 26-year-old has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with 16 goals and 21 assists. He has transformed his fortunes to become a mainstay in the middle of the park for Barcelona. Meanwhile, de Jong’s contract still has nearly three years left to run out.

But the reigning La Liga champions are keen on tying the Dutch international to a new contract. Recent reports have suggested that Barcelona tabled a deal to de Jong, hoping to agree to terms with him over fresh terms. Meanwhile, the player’s stance over his future has not changed, and he remains committed to Barcelona.

The report suggests that the renewal and realignment of de Jong’s terms on his contract are key to Barcelona’s future. But the Dutchman is not the only player in line to receive a new contract from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are also eager to tie Robert Lewandowski to a deal, extending his stay at the club.

The Polish international hit the ground running after arriving from Bayern Munich last summer, ending his debut season as the top scorer in La Liga. The 35-year-old has not been as prolific this term but has a solid tally of six goals and four assists in ten appearances thus far. Meanwhile, Lewandowski’s contract expires in less than two years, leaving Barcelona in a spot of bother.
