Bayern Munich are interested in 27-year-old Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips amidst interest from English clubs.
According to a report by 90min, Bayern Munich have established contact for Kalvin Phillips over a move in the winter transfer window. They are interested in the 27-year-old midfielder and have established contact with Manchester City over a potential move. But the Bundesliga champions face stiff competition from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Phillips joined Manchester City back in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £45 million. He had proven himself at Leeds United before making the move. The England international was expected to become one of the mainstays of the Manchester City midfield. But, 18 months down the line, he is yet to establish himself in their first team.
Since joining Pep Guardiola’s team he has only started in two Premier League games. City were ready to part ways with the 27-year-old in the summer, but he wanted to fight for a place in Guardiola’s team. However, things have not improved, and he is not in the plans of the Spanish manager while having only had 167 minutes of football in five outings this season.
With his situation not improving, the England international seems ready to make a move in January. And, there is interest in his services from Bayern Munich. The German giants wanted to sign Joao Palhinha in the summer. They were very close to acquiring his services from Fulham but the deal collapsed at the very end as the Cottagers failed to sign a replacement in time.
Post that, the Portuguese international has penned down a new deal with the English club. While Bayern still remain interested in him, they are keeping their options open and also have their eyes on the Manchester City outcast.
Bayern Munich have contacted the English club to find out more about the player’s situation. And, they have also established contacts with Phillips’s representatives in order to have an idea of what they will have to do to land him at the club.
But, Bayern are not the only team interested in his services. Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are all keen on the 27-year-old. All clubs are well aware of the player’s ability; he has proven himself in the Premier League with Leeds back in the day. As a result, they do not want to miss out on him.
Unai Emery has done wonders at Aston Villa and would love to have another world-class midfielder in his ranks. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are playing in the Champions League and could be a great option for the England international.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, they have been on a dominating run in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou and are serious challengers for the title. They would love to have depth in the centre of the park and even the player would love to be a part of a winning project.
