West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, a target for Crystal Palace.

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that West Ham United are keen on signing Ronnie Edwards. The Hammers will face competition from clubs like Crystal Palace for the 20-year-old Peterborough United defender.

Ronnie Edwards is highly rated in English football, and he has a bright future ahead of him. He could prove to be a solid long-term investment for West Ham United and Crystal Palace. The two clubs were also keen on signing the youngster in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers need to bring in defensive reinforcements, and the 20-year-old could develop into a quality Premier League player for them. Kurt Zouma has been linked with a move away from West Ham in recent weeks. So, West Ham should invest in a centre-back, with Malick Thiaw also emerging as a target.

The Hammers have reportedly set an asking price for Zouma already, and it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman moves on in the coming months. West Ham will have to replace him adequately, and Edwards could be a quality long-term alternative.

The opportunity to join a Premier League club like West Ham will be an attractive option for the Peterborough United defender, and he will look to take the next step in his career with a move to the London club. West Ham are currently competing in the UEFA Europa League, and Edwards will look to showcase his qualities in Europe with them.

West Ham need a deeper squad to do well across multiple fronts, and Edwards could be a useful squad player for them for now. The 20-year-old is unlikely to be a regular starter for them in the Premier League just yet. But he has the attributes to develop into a key player for the London club.

It will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat the competition from Crystal Palace and sign the player. The Eagles will be looking to add more depth to their defensive unit.
