Crystal Palace and West Ham United have been keeping tabs on the progress of England Under-20 international Ronnie Edwards.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Crystal Palace and West Ham United are interested in Ronnie Edwards. The Hammers have been the latest club to scout England Under-20 international in action. And the youngster is also a target for several other well-known clubs, including Rangers and Bournemouth.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently expressed his surprise at still having the player at the club, saying, “It’s an absolute joke Ronnie is still here. We are all amazed, and it’s not because we are being greedy or silly. I know three Premier League clubs will make bids for Ronnie before the transfer deadline. But they will sign other players first as they don’t want their first signing to be a 20-year-old from League One.”

Ronnie Edwards is one of the best young defenders in England, with pundits pinning him to be the next big thing in his homeland. The Englishman spent most of his formative years with Barnet FC before joining Peterborough United in August 2020.

The 20-year-old has been a regular for Peterborough United in the last three seasons despite his nascent years. And Edwards has turned out nearly 100 times for the League One club, chipping in with two assists. Meanwhile, he has made two appearances for the England Under-20 side. And the youngster’s progress has captured the attention of several clubs, including Crystal Palace and West Ham United.

Edwards has been on Crystal Palace’s radar for a long time. And reports in 2022 linked the South London club with the English whizkid. Meanwhile, amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen, Edwards has emerged as a viable target. And he can be a long-term central defensive solution for Crystal Palace.

As for West Ham, they recently scouted the 20-year-old during Peterborough United’s 3-1 win over Barnsley in League One. And with Angelo Ogbonna well into his thirties, they can do with a young centre-back. In addition, while Konstantinos Mavropanos will soon join West Ham, they will do well to sign a prodigious defender like Edwards.

From a game-time point of view, Edwards will be better served joining Crystal Palace instead of West Ham. Meanwhile, Rangers and Bournemouth are also interested in the England Under-20 international. And it will be interesting to see if he leaves Peterborough United for a bigger club this summer.
