Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Polish midfielder and Serie A winner Piotr Zielinski in a Bosman move next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Piotr Zielinski is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a midfielder ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. And the 29-year-old Serie A winner has emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.

Piotr Zielinski has been in Serie A for over a decade, having joined Udinese from Zaglebie Lubin SA in 2011. But he rose to prominence after joining Napoli from Udinese in August 2016. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Italian top flight while being a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Partenopei.

The 29-year-old was a pivotal figure as Napoli won the 2022/23 Serie A title. Meanwhile, the Polish international has turned out nearly 350 times thus far for the Italian club, chipping in with 50 goals and 47 assists. But Zielinski’s Napoli future is uncertain, as he is in the final year of his contract.

The player’s contract situation has left Napoli in a spot of bother, with the Serie A champions trying to tie him to a new contract. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked him with several high-profile clubs, with the Pole reportedly keen on joining Real Madrid when he leaves Napoli. But Barcelona will look to land him in a Bosman move next summer.

The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a midfielder ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. While Barcelona signed two midfielders — Oriol Romeu and Ilkay Gundogan — this past summer, both of them are on the wrong side of 30. So, they should sign a midfielder next year, with the duo only being short-term solutions.

Several candidates, including Sergi Altimira, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar in the last few weeks. But Zielinski is also a viable target, considering he brings title-winning pedigree and consistency to the table. In addition, the 29-year-old Serie A winner might be a free agent next summer.

So, the possibility of securing Zielinski’s services in a Bosman move will be attractive. But it will be interesting to see if Napoli can tie the Polish international to a new contract in the coming months. If not, several other well-known outfits might also compete with Barcelona for his signature next summer.
