Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has reportedly emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid again, with a January bid on the cards.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ferran Torres is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. The Colchoneros were also keen on signing the Barcelona attacker in the summer transfer window. And they will likely return with an offer when the transfer window reopens in January.

Ferran Torres has struggled for game time since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022. The Spaniard spent only 18 months at the Etihad after arriving from Valencia in the summer transfer window of 2020. And Barcelona paid a whopping €55 million to prise him away from Manchester City.

But Barcelona’s investment in Torres has not paid off yet, with the player not being consistent in his outings. The 23-year-old was solid in the second half of the 2021/22 season. But he was in and out of the team throughout the 2022/23 campaign. However, the player has started the new term well, scoring four goals in ten appearances thus far.

With starts coming regularly, Torres will look to establish a foothold at the Catalan outfit. But the Spanish international’s Barcelona future remains uncertain amid the club’s forays into the market for offensive reinforcements. He has now emerged as a target for fellow La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid.

The Colchoneros were also keen on securing Torres’s services in the summer transfer window. But the Barcelona forward snubbed Atletico Madrid as he was determined to succeed at the Catalan club. However, Atletico Madrid can do with a player of Torres’s qualities amid the inconsistencies of Memphis Depay.

The report claims that a bid in the January transfer window might be on the cards. But Atletico Madrid might have to pay a premium to land the Barcelona forward, whose contract runs until June 30, 2027. So, it will not be surprising if the reigning La Liga champions look to recoup the €55 million they paid and some.

The 23-year-old is also a target for Premier League bigwigs, including Newcastle United. So, the race to secure Torres’s services should heat up in the coming weeks. And it will be interesting to see if the Barcelona forward lands at Atletico Madrid in January.
