Serie A champions Napoli are reportedly keen on signing Arsenal attacker Gabriel Jesus to replace Victor Osimhen, whose future is uncertain.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Gabriel Jesus is the subject of interest from Napoli. The Serie A champions are in a spot of bother over Victor Osimhen’s long-term future. And they view the Arsenal forward as a replacement for the unsettled striker.

Gabriel Jesus has never been a prolific customer in the final third since arriving in England from Palmeiras half a dozen years ago. The Brazilian international spent five and a half years at Manchester City but mostly played second fiddle to Sergio Aguero. His spell at the Etihad ended last year, with Arsenal signing him in a deal worth £45 million.

The 26-year-old has been a regular for Arsenal since arriving from Manchester City. But goals have come few and far between, the same being the case this term. Jesus has only three goals in eight outings thus far for Arsenal in the ongoing campaign. But the player’s stock remains high, with Napoli keen on signing him.

The Serie A champions are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has threatened to sue the Partenopei after the club’s TikTok account posted derogatory videos on the platform. While he remains a regular for Napoli, he might not be at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium beyond this season.

Recent reports have linked Osimhen with several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur. So, with a summer transfer beckoning the Nigerian international, the Serie A giants need to plan for life after their talismanic forward. Gabriel Jesus has thus emerged as a viable target.

The Arsenal attacker might not have a high output but might become prolific in a different setup. However, the Gunners are unlikely to entertain offers for the 26-year-old forward, even if the Serie A champions fork out more than £45 million to secure his services.

Apart from Jesus, the Serie A giants also have their sights set on Alvaro Morata and Jonathan David. And it will be interesting to see which striker arrives at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to bolster the Napoli attack in 2024.
