Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho reportedly wants a return to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window after a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to 90min, who reports that several German clubs are keeping tabs on Sancho’s situation at Old Trafford; however, Dortmund is the only destination the United winger wants to join should he likely depart in early 2024.

The England winger has been exiled from the squad and forced to train on his own after he refused to apologise for a strongly worded social media rebuttal he made on social media in the wake of his manager Erik ten Hag’s comments post-Arsenal defeat in early September.

Ten Hag was asked why Sancho was left out of the squad for the match, to which the Dutch coach responded by stating the 23-year-old had not trained well enough to warrant selection. Sancho responded sternly, posting on X, dismissing the “completely untrue” comments from his manager and saying that he had been a “scapegoat for a long time.”

The conflict has not been resolved since then, and Ten Hag has demanded Sancho apologise for his actions. That apology is yet to arrive, and it seems like the relationship between the player and the club has broken beyond repair, with the Red Devils now willing to sell him when the transfer window reopens in January.

Likewise, as per 90min, Sancho has made a final decision on his future: he wants to leave Old Trafford and rejoin Borussia Dortmund in the upcoming winter transfer window.

A number of clubs in Germany are said to be interested in Sancho and ready to make a move for him in 2024, but the English winger is only interested in returning to his former team.

Sancho enjoyed a very successful four-year spell at Signal Iduna Park, where he earned a reputation as one of the most promising young wingers in Europe. He produced a stellar 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games across competitions.

However, the former Manchester City academy graduate has been unable to hit the same heights with Manchester United, managing just 12 goals and six assists in 82 games across all competitions.

The report adds that United “would be looking to recoup” a big chunk of the £73 million fee they paid to sign Sancho in any permanent sale, but a loan move with an option or obligation to buy next summer is more likely, with the player’s stock damaged drastically after consistent underperformance in the last couple of years.

Erik ten Hag himself is in a tough spot as Manchester United sit 10th in the Premier League and rock-bottom in their Champions League group with zero points. It may not be time to panic yet about the Dutchman being sacked, but there is always the possibility that Sancho could still find his way back into the first-team picture under a new manager.
