Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly vying for the signature of 27-year-old German international Leroy Sane ahead of the 2024 summer.

According to a report by BILD, as relayed by SPORT, Leroy Sane is a popular figure in the transfer market. The 27-year-old is yet to commit to a new contract at Bayern Munich, with his current deal ending in just over 18 months. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the clubs tracking his situation at the Allianz Arena.

Leroy Sane has made gradual progress since joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City in July 2020. The German international returned to his homeland after a fruitful stint with the Premier League heavyweights. But he has not been an undisputed first-choice attacker for Bayern Munich in the last three years.

However, Sane has started the 2023/24 season well, managing six goals in ten appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has become a pivotal figure for the German national side. But he will enter the final year of his contract next summer. And the situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Recent reports have also linked the former Manchester City attacker with Premier League bigwigs. Liverpool, in particular, might target him to replace Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian forward moves to Saudi Arabia. But the emergence of Barcelona and Real Madrid changes the equation considerably.

Barcelona might need a new wide attacker in the 2024 summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Ferran Torres. The Spaniard has struggled to hold down a regular berth in the final third since arriving from Manchester City. So, Sane will be an attractive option to replace Torres if he leaves Barcelona.

On the other hand, Real Madrid’s squad does not have a plethora of offensive options. Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and Joselu are the only recognised out-and-out forwards. So, Real Madrid should dip into the market for a wide attacker to give Carlo Ancelotti the option to shuffle his system.

Bayern Munich will attempt to tie him to a new contract in the coming months. But Barcelona and Real Madrid will likely pounce if the two parties fail to seal an agreement over a new contract heading into the 2024 summer transfer window.
