Aston Villa are interested in having the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong in their ranks.

According to a report by the Kicker, Aston Villa are interested in the services of Jeremie Frimpong. The 22-year-old full-back has been in sensational form in the recent past and the Premier League club are looking to add him to their ranks.

Frimpong came through the ranks at Manchester City but he failed to break into their first team. The 22-year-old then decided to join Celtic in search of regular first-team football. In the winter of 2021, Bayer Leverkusen came calling and managed to secure his services for just €11 million.

The Dutch international has gone from strength to strength since joining the German club. And, of late he has been doing wonders for them.

Frimpong has featured in a total of 103 matches for Leverkusen and has contributed towards 39 goals. In the ongoing season, he already has five goal contributions in his eight outings.

He is one of the most important players in Xabi Alonso’s system and he is keen on having him in his ranks for years to come. As a result, Leverkusen have penned down a new deal with the 22-year-old. His previous deal ran until the summer of 2025 but the new contract runs until the summer of 2028.

The new deal is a win-win situation for both parties involved. According to the report, he will now be amongst the top earners of the club and Leverkusen will have a strong position on the negotiation table if a club comes knocking.

However, a top European club could still acquire his services by triggering a release clause that is expected to be present in his new deal. The 22-year-old wants to play for a bigger club in the near future and he is expected to cost around €35-40 million, a fee that most top clubs can afford.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are interested in the Dutch international. Emery has signed some exceptional players at Villa and he is looking to add Frimpong to his ranks. The Spanish manager feels the 22-year-old could make them a much better outfit going forward and he is willing to try his luck in 2024.

But, according to the report, the player is looking to move to one of the biggest clubs in the summer of 2024 and he might not prefer joining Villa at this stage of his career. And, with the new deal in place, Villa will have to rethink their interest in the Leverkusen full-back.
