Chelsea are interested in acquiring the services of 28-year-old AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan who is closing in on a new deal with the Italian club.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Chelsea are interested in signing Mike Maignan. The Blues have been keeping tabs on the 28-year-old for a while now and would love to bring him to their club.

Maignan is among the best goalkeepers in the world. The 28-year-old has been the mainstay of Milan since arriving at the club back in the summer of 2021.

He has featured in a total of 74 matches for the Italian club and has only conceded 66 goals so far. The French international has kept a clean sheet on 32 occasions.

The former LOSC Lille shot-stopper got off to a great start in the 2023-24 season. He already has three clean sheets in his six outings in all competitions. The 28-year-old is expected to have another stellar season in goal for Milan.

While the player is happy at the Italian club and still has three years on his existing deal, there are quite a few clubs interested in his services. Chelsea are one of the clubs that are ready to prise him away from Milan.

The Blues signed Robert Sánchez in the summer from Brighton. And, currently, the 25-year-old is their number one. He has had a decent start to life in London but they do not have much depth in that position. As a result, they are looking to bring in another shot-stopper.

Signing Mike Maignan will surely bolster their goalkeeping position to a great extent. The 28-year-old will take over as the club’s number one and Sanchez could end up giving him tough competition for a place in the starting XI.

But, it seems very unlikely that the Blues will be able to sign the French international from Milan. They might have the financial power but it won’t be enough to land him at the club.

Milan are looking to extend his contract and the player wants to continue playing for the Italian giants. The talks regarding a new deal have already begun. The player’s agent are expected to meet the Milan CEO in the near future to discuss major terms of a new deal.

According to the report, the deal will see him stay at the club until the summer of 2028. And, Milan are planning to reward the 28-year-old for his exceptional performances by doubling his current salary of 2.8 million per season.

If Milan end up penning down a new deal with Maignan before the winter transfer window, Chelsea won’t stand a chance to sign him. But, if a new deal is not agreed in time, the Blues could end up trying their luck.
