Barcelona might look to re-sign 23-year-old Spanish defender Juan Miranda in a Bosman move in the 2024 summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Juan Miranda is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants do not necessarily need to sign a left-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. But the Spaniard’s impending status as a free agent has made him an attractive target over a Bosman move.

Juan Miranda has had an intriguing career thus far, with his spell with Barcelona not working out. While the 23-year-old was one of the best young prospects in La Masia, he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad. So, after two loan spells away from Camp Nou, Barcelona sold him to Real Betis in July 2021.

The Spanish defender had joined Barcelona from Real Betis in 2014. So, it was a homecoming for him two years ago. And Miranda has been a regular for Los Verdiblancos, turning out 83 times while chipping in with six goals and nine assists. But the Andalusian giants are in a spot of bother over his long-term future.

The Spaniard is in the final year of his contract with Real Betis, with a new deal nowhere in sight. So, a move away from the Benito Villamarin Stadium might be on the cards for Miranda. And the player’s situation has captured the attention of his former club, Barcelona.

Alejandro Balde’s presence on the left flank means the reigning La Liga champions do not need a left-back. But Marcos Alonso is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his career. In addition, Barcelona might part ways with the veteran defenders in the 2024 summer transfer window.

So, it behoves Barcelona to scour the market for a left-back. Juan Miranda has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. The 23-year-old Spanish defender’s impending status as a free agent also makes him an attractive option.

Barcelona can bolster the defensive unit for free, with Miranda being good enough to share game time with Balde. But Real Betis will likely work in overdrive to tie the Spaniard to a new contract. So, it will be interesting to see if a fairytale return to Barcelona is on the cards.
