Jose Mourinho eyes a reunion with 28-year-old Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could leave in January.

According to IlRomanista, Jose Mourinho eyes a reunion with Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 28-year-old Tottenham star had joined the north Londoners when the Portuguese was at the helm, and with an uncertain future there, Roma could sign the midfielder in January.

Jose Mourinho has always gone back to former clubs for selective players. Right from his time at Porto to Chelsea and beyond, the experienced manager has signed some of his reliable stars at new clubs. The time may have come to repeat the trick, as he targets a move for 28-year-old Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish star arrived at Tottenham at the request of Mourinho and was one of his major signings during his spell in North London. With the Portuguese having left a few years ago, the current Roma boss now eyes a reunion with Hojbjerg at the Serie A side.

Roma is always looking out for good deals in the market and may consider making a move for the 28-year-old Tottenham star in the January window. As things stand, Hojbjerg does not have a big part to play in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, as Spurs were open to offers during the summer.

A move to Atletico Madrid stalled for different reasons, but primarily finances. The Spanish club were not in a position to pay what Tottenham wanted, who may have also refused to let the Dane leave on loan. Having invested a decent £15 million when they signed him, Spurs would likely recover that at least and maybe more.

Juventus are also keen on the midfielder, as they have several other midfield targets on their list ahead of the January window. However, the lure of former boss Mourinho could make Roma favourites to land the reliable 28-year-old Tottenham star.

Hojbjerg has done nothing wrong so far to deserve being relegated to the Tottenham bench. In fact, in a drab season, he was one of their consistent performers and now looks unhappy playing a secondary role. The Danish star wants an exit in January.

As per the report, he also seems uninterested in extending his deal, as Spurs may have to lower their summer asking price in the next window. By then, Hojbjerg will have 18 months left on his current deal, which could attract many other clubs.

However, his liking for Mourinho could sway the path for Roma to make their approach. Like other transfers, the Serie A giants will look for a bargain move, something they might end up achieving with all factors favouring them as the most important suitor when it comes to the 28-year-old Tottenham star.
