Atletico Madrid have failed with their bid to acquire the services of 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the latest bid placed by Atletico Madrid for the services of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Colchoneros recently reignited their interest in the 28-year-old and have been since pushing to strike a deal with Spurs.

Atletico Madrid recently placed an offer for the Danish international’s services, but it has been rejected by the North London club. While Spurs are ready to part ways with Hojbjerg, they will only do so on their own terms. There are still two years left on his deal with the club. As a result, Tottenham do not need to rush for a sale.

According to earlier reports, the North London club have been looking for close to £40 million for the 28-year-old. But, the offer put forward by La Liga giants Atletico Madrid was a straightforward loan deal. As a result, Tottenham have knocked it back.

The deal has hit a standstill and things are unlikely to change unless Atletico Madrid put forward an offer that has a buy option/obligation involved. Deigo Simeone’s men have been interested in the Danish international throughout the summer.

Earlier in the transfer window, they had submitted an official bid to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis. But, the offer was rejected by the North London club as it didn’t meet their valuation of £40 million.

While there have been talks of the Rojiblancos reigniting their interest in Hojbjerg’s services throughout the transfer window, Spurs were focused on other transfers. And, just before the deadline day, Atletico Madrid decided to re-start talks with Tottenham.

Hojbjerg has gone from strength to strength since joining Tottenham from Southampton back in 2020. The 28-year-old had an important role in the team last season. But things have changed over the past few months. And, he is no longer a regular at the club.

As a result, the North London club are ready to negotiate his departure. Even the player is pushing for a move away from the Spurs. But, as things stand he might end up staying at Tottenham beyond the transfer window instead of moving to La Liga.
