Fenerbahce are still interested in Arsenal midfielder Jorginho and could plot an early move for the 31-year-old in the January transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Fenerbahce retain an interest in Jorginho and could plot an early January move for the 31-year-old. The cultured Arsenal midfielder may not feature in Mikel Arteta’s short-term plans, and the club may allow his departure if it suits all parties.

Jorginho was heralded as a genius signing by Arsenal and Mikel Arteta when the club decided to pay a decent fee to sign him last January. In light of Thomas Partey’s fitness struggles, the Italian international proved the right transfer decision. He played a crucial part in their title run-in.

With the acquisition of Declan Rice, Arteta has somewhat sidelined Jorginho from his immediate plans as the cultured Arsenal midfielder continues to spend more time on the bench. The cultured midfielder came in for criticism for his mistake that led to Tottenham’s second equaliser in the North London Derby, as his stocks with the Gunners continue to take a tumble.

There are clubs like Barcelona and Juventus looking at the experienced midfielder ahead of the January window. Fenerbahce are also still interested in signing the Italian and could make an early ploy to tempt the 31-year-old in the next window.

Jorginho decided to stay at Arsenal despite Fenerbahce’s interest in the summer. For Arteta, the midfielder remains a key member of the squad. The manager has preferred to bring the Italian regularly off the bench in games and continues to rely on his experience in games that need it.

With a diminished role in this Arsenal squad, Jorginho could leave in January as he must be aware of the interest from elsewhere. Fenerbahce could become an option if the Italian international chooses a different experience. He may not ignore the overtures of sides like Barcelona and especially Juventus.

Arsenal have had links to Adrien Rabiot, as the Frenchman has a similar contractual situation to Jorginho’s. Both their deals expire next summer, with both clubs sensing an opportunity to bring those stars in January.

If Juventus come in with an approach, there are chances of the two clubs brokering a swap deal for the midfielders. However, so far, Jorginho has seemed happy to stay and play his assigned role with Arsenal. This means he could run down his current contract to move out as a free agent next summer.
