Juventus are plotting a January move for 28-year-old Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the midfielder keen on departing.
According to Corriere della Sera via Sport Witness, Juventus could look at Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as an addition to their midfield in January. The 28-year-old has not been a regular starter under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham and remains keen to leave the club at the next available opportunity.
Tottenham were hoping to refresh their midfield with the specifications of their new manager, Ange Postecoglou. The Australian signed no notable central midfielders but used the options available to him and established the dynamic partnership of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.
With Rodrigo Bentancur also likely to become a part of the team when he returns, the clock is already ticking for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at the club. The 28-year-old ace has not started a single Premier League game this season, and his five appearances so far have totalled 79 minutes of action.
Hojbjerg wants to leave the club in January, but Tottenham wanted to get rid of him during the summer itself. Spurs seemed open to the idea of an outright sale and did not entertain the prospects of a loan move for the Danish midfielder.
A move to Atletico Madrid stalled because of those reasons or the fact that they needed to offer the required money. Either way, Hojbjerg remained a Tottenham player beyond the summer window, but new opportunities could arrive in January, with Juventus now showing an interest.
Juventus have a fresh problem in their midfield with the issue surrounding Paul Pogba. The Frenchman tested positive in a recent doping test and faces an uncertain future, including a long ban from football. The Bianconeri are open to replacing him with another experienced name and had earmarked a move for Thomas Partey.
They have also shown an interest in Jorginho, but Arsenal are unlikely to sanction either move. They also like OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram, but the report insists Hojbjerg suits their style, for the 28-year-old ace carries the character and personality to play for the club.
If Juventus are thinking about signing a wantaway midfielder on the cheap, then they are wrong about that notion. Tottenham will demand a significant fee in return and will stick to their asking price, between £30-40 million.
Atletico could also return to the table for the Dane, but Juventus could also make a compelling case for the 28-year-old ace. For now, Tottenham and Hojbjerg seem open to the possibility of playing elsewhere, but if the competition increases, then Spurs will likely benefit from an outright sale.
