Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has his say on Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez being linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Inter Milan would not have sold Lautaro Martinez for any fee despite him being linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Both the Premier League giants were in need of a new number nine during the summer and they did consider signing the Argentine international. But, Inter had no plans of letting him leave the club.

Martinez came through the ranks at Racing Club before joining the Italian giants back in the summer of 2018. Over the years, he has featured in a total of 243 matches for the club and has contributed towards 146 goals. He has found the back of the net on 108 occasions and also has 38 assists to his name.

The 26-year-old has become the mainstay of their team and is currently their club captain. The former Racing Club striker played an integral part in helping them reach the Champions League final last season.

He featured in 57 matches in all competitions during the 2022-23 season and was on the pitch for over 4,100 minutes. The Argentine international found the back of the net on 28 occasions and bagged 11 assists.

His impressive performances attracted the attention of Tottenham and Manchester United. Both clubs were in need of a new number nine. Spurs had parted ways with Harry Kane in the summer and the 26-year-old would have been an ideal replacement.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils didn’t have enough firepower up top post the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Their Dutch manager Erik ten Hag was desperate to have a new number nine and they were linked with the Inter Milan striker.

However, neither club stood a chance as Inter had already lost Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko in the summer. And, they had no plans of parting ways with the 26-year-old irrespective of the fee.

Romano recently said: “Lautaro is very happy at Inter, and Inter love Lautaro. He is the club captain and they will discuss new deal very soon. Talks will take place in the coming months.

“In the summer there was absolutely nothing as after losing Lukaku and Dzeko, for Inter it was impossible to consider selling Lautaro for any fee.”

The Argentine international is very happy at the Italian club and he has no intentions of leaving them. Martinez wants to continue at Inter for years to come and the club is keen on extending his stay at the club as his current deal runs out in the summer of 2026. The talks regarding his new deal are expected to get underway soon.
